Dear OCEF Donors and Friends:

In the past 18 years, OCEF has supported over 37,000 impoverished students in rural China to pursue their dreams of education. Li Zhen, age 9, is one of them. Zhen lives in Guangling, Shanxi Province and has struggled to learn throughout his adolescent life.  With your generous donation, Zhen is engaged to complete his primary education and live his dream.

“I want to learn and OCEF has made this possible for me”, said Zhen to an OCEF representative this last summer. Because of OCEF’s continued financial support of Zhen and others like his, his dream may one day come true.

In spite of the global recession and a dip in annual contributions, OCEF’s support of rural education is going strong. The scholarship profile for the year of 2009 speaks for itself:

  • 4855 Grades 1-9 students
  • 1068 High School students
  • 118 1st year University students
  • 171 Teachers

OCEF also funded the construction of 3 schools and 30 libraries in poor rural areas in 2009.

Behind each of these statistics, however, is a human story much like Zhen’s. These rural students have so little but are eager to achieve so much.  Similarly, the teachers, whose salaries are subsidized by OCEF, are enthusiastic and dedicated to helping children in their classrooms.

You should know that the Scholarship Program and Teacher Aid Program are the cornerstones of the OCEF programs and serves as the education lifeline for thousands of grade, high school, and first year university students and teachers in rural China. It is here where donors like you can really make a difference in the lives of struggling students living in and from rural China. Today, we seek your donation for the Scholarship Program and Teacher Aid Program in any amount that you can provide.

Thank you for partnering with the students and teachers of rural China and providing them the critical stepping stone to a decent education. We truly appreciate your generosity.

Sincerely,

Gan Liang, Ph. D.
President
